info@islandpacket.comJanuary 17, 2014

BABSON PARK, Fla. -- The unofficial start of the University of South Carolina Beaufort's 2014 baseball season is set for Saturday afternoon at Webber International's Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center Field. The Sun Conference All-Star Game will feature 52 of the league's best players and will include members of all 10 of the conference's baseball programs. The game is a showcase for scouts and fans alike to get a look at one of the premier baseball conferences in the NAIA.

Nine all-conference selections from 2013 and seven All-Star Game participants from a year ago will play in Saturday's contest. The conference will be split into two teams, with Embry-Riddle, Southeastern, Thomas (Ga.), USCB and Webber International making up the North squad. The South team has members from Ave Maria, Florida Memorial, Northwood, St. Thomas and Warner.

Game time is set for 1 p.m. Live Stats will be provided at www.erauathletics.com/live

Last season, the South avenged a shutout in 2012 by registering a 7-4 win over the North in Daytona Beach at Embry-Riddle's Sliwa Stadium. In 2012, the North posted a 4-0 victory, while the South won the 2011 contest, 11-6. The 2010 contest finished in a 5-5 tie.

Six seniors will represent USCB for the North team: pitchers Hunter Englehart and CJ Kelly; first baseman Erik Armstrong; infielders Jon Andrews and Ryan Walker; and outfielder Blake Cilwick.

The Sand Sharks open the regular season Feb. 1 with a noon doubleheader against visiting Fisher (Mass.) College.
