State's top wrestling teams to invade Battery Creek for Coach Trap tournament

Nineteen wrestling teams from throughout the state will fill the Battery Creek High School gymnasium this weekend for the fifth-annual Coach Trap Memorial Wrestling Tournament.

Among the area teams will be the host Dolphins, Beaufort High School, Hilton Head Island High School and Whale Branch Early College High School.

Among the competition is Class 4-A powers Summerville and Lexington, ranked No. 2 and No. 3 respectively in the most recent S.C. Wrestling Coaches Association poll.

Second-ranked Chapin and seventh-ranked West Oak are among the top-10 teams from Class 3-A.

The duals will put the top three teams from Class 2-1/1-A. Battery Creek is ranked No. 1, Liberty is No. 2 and third-ranked Bamberg-Ehrhardt will also wrestle.

4:30 p.m.: Weigh-in and blind draw

5:30 p.m.: First round (Will wrestle as many matches as possible to ensure no team has more than five matches Saturday

Saturday

9 a.m.: Weigh-in

10 a.m.: Wrestling resumes

6 p.m.: Championship and third-place matches

8 p.m.: Awards
