A Bluffton man was injured in a drive-by shooting outside his home Wednesday evening, according to a Bluffton Police Department news release.

The 27-year-old man was shot in the lower leg outside his house in the 80 block of Shults Road, the release said. He was transported by EMS to a hospital for treatment.

Police received a call about 9:30 p.m. in regards to a shooting that occurred on Goethe Road. When officers found the victim, the man initially said he was injured while walking along Shults Road toward Goethe Road when a black car pulled alongside him and someone inside began to shoot.

Further investigation revealed the victim was on his porch when the vehicle, possibly a Mercedes-Benz, approached with its headlights off and a passenger started firing, the release said. Police believe shots were also fired at the vehicle from the porch or front yard, according to the release.

Officers searched the home for other evidence of the shooting and discovered what they suspect to be cocaine. No drug charges have been filed, Capt. Angela McCall-Tanner said, but the investigation is ongoing.
