Rezoning decision hurts general public

info@islandpacket.comJanuary 16, 2014

Is it too late to reverse the decision to rezone the Salty Fare Landing? Historically, zoning decisions are based on "best use" of property. Is "best use" now interpreted to restrict public access to Hilton Head Island's waterways, in favor of gated entry for a select few?

The record shows no traffic or noise complaints, and the tax revenue is likely favorable to commercial zoning. So is this decision due to a noisy few? Once it's gone, it's gone.
