BALLET

YOUTH BALLET: Who: Ages 4 and up; When: Saturdays, Jan. 11 to March 15; Where: Island Recreation Center, Hilton Head Island; Cost: $65; Schedule: Pre-Ballet 1 -- Ages 4-5, 9:30-10 a.m.; Elementary Ballet -- Ages 6-9, 10-10:30 a.m.; Pre-Ballet 2 -- Ages 5 and up, 10:30-11 a.m.; Intro to Elementary Ballet -- Ages 6-9, 11-11:30 a.m.; Notes: All classes are instructed by Lisa McPherson. BEAUFORT COUNTY PALS

PALS AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM: What: Registration for Beaufort County Parks and Leisure Services After-School Program; Where: Bluffton center, Burton Wells, Broomfield, Port Royal, Scott Center and Lind Brown; Notes: Registrations will be accepted until each center is full. Registration: Online at www.bcgov.net/PALS, or at the Burton Wells Recreation Center in Beaufort or the Buckwalter Recreation Center in Bluffton; Information: Call 255-6680 in Beaufort or 255-6710 in Bluffton.

CHEERLEADING

BEAUFORT HIGH BASKETBALL CHEER CLINIC: Who: Pre-kindergarten through eighth grade; When: 1-4 p.m., Feb. 1; Where: Beaufort High School gym, Lady's Island; Cost: $35; Notes: Camp will be led by Beaufort High cheerleaders. Participants will be invited to perform at halftime of the Beaufort High varsity basketball game Feb. 4. Pre-registration is encouraged. Walk-up registration, on a space-available basis, begins at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 1. Cost includes a cheer clinic T-shirt, group photo and refreshments. CREW

HILTON HEAD ISLAND SPRING CREW SEASON: What: Registration for the Hilton Head Island crew team; When: Noon, Jan. 18 and 6:30 p.m. Jan. 22; Where: Island Recreation Center; Cost: $275, plus $90 per race (5); Notes: The spring season lasts 10 weeks and there will be five races. Practice will be held five days a week beginning at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 27. Participants must attend one of the registration and information meetings. The season fee and the first two race fees are due at registration for all returning rowers. New athletes will have until Feb. 3 to pay the season fee and first two race fees. Uniforms will be measured at registration. Cost for the uniform is $50. Information: Lucinda DeSantis 597-3145.

GOLF

MARTIN LUTHER KING OUTING: When: 12:30 p.m., Jan. 25; Where: Robert Trent Jones Course, Palmetto Dunes, Hilton Head Island; Cost: $80; Note: Food and prizes following play. Information: Call 290-5943.

SEA RESCUE ST. PATTY'S TOURNAMENT: What: Beaufort Water Search & Rescue and Fripp Island Sea Rescue 11th annual tournament; When: March 22; Where: Ocean Creek Golf Course, Fripp Island; Format: 4-person teams, captain's choice; Cost: $75 per player (includes lunch); Notes: Prizes for top three gross and net scores. Hole-in-one prize, longest drive, closest to the pin, and more. Tournament is a fundraiser for Beaufort Water Search & Rescue and Fripp Island Sea Rescue. The rescue units are made up of volunteers who serve the commercial and recreation boating community in emergencies. Donations are being accepted, and sponsorship opportunities are available. MISCELLANEOUS

BEFORE-SCHOOL AND AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS: When: Monday through Friday (regularly scheduled public school days); Where: Hilton Head Island Recreation Center; Notes: Programs combine play with academics. Children in the afterschool program receive homework assistance. Programs focus on youth development, academic success, friendship and character-building. Before-school program children will be walked over to school. There is a registration fee of $30 per child or $50 per family each year. Completed registration forms must be turned in to Rec Center before your child can attend the program. Financial assistance is available to those in need. RUNNING

RESOLUTION RUN/WALK 5K: What: Third annual event to benefit LowCountry Habitat for Humanity; Where: Marina Drive, Dataw Island; When: 10 a.m., Jan. 18; Cost: $25 per person; Notes: Flat course for runners, walkers or strollers. Leashed dogs welcome. Awards will be given to top 3 finishers in eight categories. HILTON HEAD MARATHON: What: Hilton Head Island Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K; When: 8 a.m. Feb. 8; Where: Jarvis Creek Park, Hilton Head Island; Notes: The inaugural marathon (a Boston Marathon qualifier) and 12th annual half marathon will take runners over the Cross Island bridge. Both the marathon and half marathon will feature all standard male and female divisions. The event also will feature a 5K, children's fun run, and post-race party with live music, vendors and a craft beer garden. The event is limited to a total of 2,500 participants. SWIMMING
