The School Improvement Councils from Okatie and Port Royal elementary schools have been named to the S.C. School Improvement Council's 2014 Honor Roll.

They join five other councils that made the list for their efforts to foster civic engagement in public education. Two of those schools were from Greenville. Kershaw, Lexington and Richland counties had one school each on the list.

The five councils are now in the running for state's annual Dick and Tunky Riley Award for School Improvement Council Excellence, which will be announced March 22.
