Whale Branch boys remain No. 1 in basketball rankings

Whale Branch Early College High School remained atop the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association's Class 1-A Boys rankings this week, while the girls team climbed two spots from fifth to third.

The Warriors (10-3) rallied back from a 15-point second-half deficit on Saturday to defeat Battery Creek, then ranked No. 8 in Class 2-A, on the road, 71-63. Earlier in the week, the edged Class 4-A Bluffton 54-53.

Battery Creek (9-4) dropped a spot to ninth in this week's Boys Class 2-A poll.

The Whale Branch (9-5) girls fell to the Dolphins (9-4), 37-29, but still moved up two spots in the poll.

In the girls Class 3-A rankings, Hilton Head Island High dropped a spot from ninth to 10th after falling, 60-48, to South Effingham (Ga.).
