The people deserve more say in government

What is happening to our beautiful and once-quiet island? We now have Hilton Head Island Town Council voting for a rehabilitation center at the Main Street Inn site. Did the people who live near this area have a say in this vote? I do not remember it if we did. True, they have council meetings we can attend, but usually no one knows in time and, due to other commitments, cannot attend. Why not have a better way of voting for important decisions that affect people who live on the island?

Did anyone vote yes for the flyover or the runway extension at the airport? Most people I have spoken to oppose these projects. It does not seem to make a difference what the community desires for the island; the Town Council and Beaufort County Council do whatever they want. This is Washington politics on Hilton Head. It seems that power has gone to the heads of the elected officials. Shame on them.
