GIRLS BASKETBALL

Hilton Head Christian Academy 59, Porter-Gaud 47: Macee Tamminen hit four 3-pointers and finished with 24 points to lead the Hilton Head Christian Academy girls basketball team to a 59-47 win over Porter-Gaud on Friday night in Charleston, keeping the Eagles undefeated on the season.

Ziaira Doe added 15 points and Andy Anderson scored eight for Hilton Head Christian, which led 30-22 at halftime. Monica Bundy and Francesca Guidobono finished with four apiece, and Hannah Reynolds had two.

Hilton Head Christian (6-0 overall, 1-0 region) stays in the Charleston area, playing at Ashley Hall at noon on Saturday.

Garis Grant topped Porter-Gaud with 11 points.

First Baptist 52, Hilton Head Prep 24: The visiting Dolphins dropped their second SCISAA Region 3-AA contest of the season despite 14 points from freshman Kendall Smith.

Jonai Grant led First Baptist with 18 points.

Hilton Head Prep (3-7, 0-2) returns to action Saturday at Porter-Gaud.

Whale Branch 63, Branchville 8: Eleven different players scored as the Warriors pounded their guests in a Region 5-A opener.

Kemoni Jenkins was the only player for Whale Branch to score in double figures, finishing with 17 points. Shaniqua Johnson added eight points, Shay White had seven, and Cheyenne Rogers, Tatyana Ford and Cynthia Rivers scored six apiece.

Whale Branch (9-4 overall, 1-0 region) led 44-2 at halftime.

The Warriors will face a tougher test at 5 p.m. Saturday at Battery Creek.

Beaufort Academy 58, Bible Baptist 38: Miranda Weslake poured in 29 points to lead Beaufort Academy to a region win.

Carli Cline added seven points, Anna Dyer had six and Mary Keane scored five for the Eagles (6-4 overall, 2-0 region).

Beaufort Academy plays at Hilton Head Christian on Monday.

Lauren Mills scored 14 in the loss for Bible Baptist.

St. Andrew's 39, Thomas Heyward Academy 34 (OT): The Rebels dropped their region opener in Savannah after being outscored 6-1 in overtime.

Ellie Bryan led Thomas Heyward with 12 points, Cheyanne Gray had seven and Haylee Wade scored five.

The Rebels (4-7 overall, 0-1 region) return home Tuesday to host Charleston Collegiate.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Ridgeland-Hardeeville 54, North Charleston 44: Terrance Frazier scored 17 points, and the Jaguars rallied from a nine-point deficit at halftime to defeat the visiting Cougars.

Charles Mitchell added 10 points and Trenard Ferrell scored eight for Ridgeland-Hardeeville (6-4 overall, 3-1 Region 6-AA), which plays again Tuesday at Woodland.

Whale Branch 82, Branchville 34: Devonta Glover nearly had a triple-double and was one of 10 Warriors to score in the blowout.

Glover finished with 13 points, 15 rebounds and nine steals. Justin Rhode had a game-high 18 points, and Denzel Daniel tallied 10 points and 10 rebounds. David Lamb added nine points and Jovelle Coakley scored seven.

The Warriors play at Battery Creek on Saturday night.

JV: Whale Branch 44, Branchville 16

Hilton Head Prep 47, First Baptist 41: Randy Young tallied 17 points and four rebounds, and hit some key free throws down the stretch, to help the Dolphins pick up a win in Charleston.

John Eck and Brennan Mikell had double-doubles for Prep, both putting up 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Hilton Head Prep, which led by six points at halftime, was only 16 of 29 from the free-throw line on the night. But Young hit them when it mattered, lifting Prep (8-2) to a non-region win.

The Dolphins play in Charleston again at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, taking on region foe Porter-Gaud.

Shaquille Robertson scored 15 points and Hudson Taylor had 13 for First Baptist.

Bible Baptist 84, Beaufort Academy 55: Casey Hughes scored 23 points to help Bible Baptist knock off the Eagles.

Freshman Kane Thorp led Beaufort Academy with 16 points. Kevin Williams added 10 points and six rebounds, and Nicky Macuch scored eight points.

The Eagles (4-8 overall, 1-2 region) play a non-region game at Hilton Head Christian Academy on Monday.

St. Andrew's 42, Thomas Heyward Academy 41: The Rebels missed a 12-foot shot at the buzzer that would have won it.

Dylan Tillotson scored 12 points to lead Thomas Heyward (6-6 overall, 0-1 region), which hosts Charleston Collegiate on Tuesday.
