Recreation Briefs, Jan. 8: Volleyball club teams win Charleston tournament

The Low Country Volleyball Club's national 15 team won the Power Division at a recent tournament in Charleston.

LOW COUNTRY VOLLEYBALL SQUAD WINS POWER DIVISION TITLE

Playing in its first tournament of the 2014 season, the Low Country Volleyball Club's 15 National team took first place in the 15 Power Division at the Charleston Kick Off Classic, held Jan. 4 and 5.

Low Country beat Upstate Volleyball Club in the semifinals (26-24, 25-20) and Carolina One Volleyball Club in the finals (25-15, 25-17).

Players on the Low Country 15 National team are Alexxis Andreas, Noelle Glover, Sydney Janson, Da'Nesha Miller and Lexie Standen of Hilton Head Island High School; Annie Franklin, Lanitra Ferguson and Shadaisha Altacho of Bluffton High School; Carly Timperman of Sea Pines Montessori Academy and Kaitlyn Beasley of Beaufort Academy.

The team, coached by Tina Franklin and Susan Janson, next plays in the Carolina Winter Classic to be held Jan. 18 in Rock Hill.

BEAUFORT VOLLEYBALL TEAMS TAKE FIRST IN CHARLESTON

The Beaufort Volleyball Club began its 2014 Palmetto Volleyball Association season Jan. 4 and 5 in the the Charleston Kick Off Classic at the Charleston Convention Center. Five teams from the Beaufort Volleyball Club participated in the event, with the 12-and-under team and the 14-and-under Black team capturing first in their respective club divisions.
