A Hilton Head Island woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with a recent theft at a Bluffton jewelry store, and the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is searching for her boyfriend.

Margot Carol Tennant, 22, was charged with grand larceny and child neglect after she allegedly brought her 4-month-old daughter to a Moss Creek Village store and stole about $10,000 worth of jewelry Saturday afternoon, a news release said.

Her 29-year-old boyfriend, Jason Grant Williams, is wanted on the same charges.

At about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Tennant and Williams entered SC Gold and Silver Buyers with their daughter, according to the release. After Williams traded several silver pieces for cash, he reportedly asked the store manager about a piece of jewelry in a case.

The manager then noticed Tennant had taken her child outside, gotten into a green SUV and parked the car parallel to the store, the release said. Suddenly, Williams grabbed a display case and ran outside and into the vehicle, which sped out of the parking lot onto U.S. 278, nearly causing an accident, the release said.

Tennant, who also was charged with two counts of fraud, is being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

Investigators are searching for Williams, who is wanted on charges of grand larceny and child neglect.

He might have ties to the Myrtle Beach area, the release said. Anyone with information can contact Cpl. D. Nelson at 843-255-3412 or Crime Stoppers at 888-CRIME-SC (274-6372).
