The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office arrested a 48-year-old man in connection with an assault Sunday night at an Okatie gas station.

The man was charged with third-degree assault and battery after he allegedly slammed a clerk's head into a glass door at Blue Water No. 8 store on Callawassie Drive, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

The clerk said the man entered the store about 8 p.m. and started yelling and cursing at her before buying cigarettes and two beers.

She said he pushed her, and when she threw her soda in his face, he slammed her head into the glass door at the front of the store.

The report said the man admitted to slamming her head into the door because she splashed soda in his face.

He was being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center on Monday, with bond set at about $1,000.

His court date is scheduled for Jan. 23, according to Sgt. Robin McIntosh.
