The Martin Luther King Jr. Observance Committee is hosting two events in January in Bluffton to honor the civil rights leader.

The committee will host a Jan. 18 banquet with door prizes from Bluffton merchants. Special guests will include the Campbell Chapel dance team, Jabari Gordon, Patrick Treacy III, and Lt. Col. Louis L. Mitchell, who will speak at the event.

The banquet begins at 6 p.m. at Campbell Chapel AME Church, 25 Boundary St. Donations of $35 for adults and $12.50 for children younger than 12 are requested.

The committee also is hosting a Jan. 20 memorial service at Bluffton Town Hall, 20 Bridge St., followed by a march through Old Town. A cookout at Town Hall will follow the march, according to a news release.
