Residents can see which day trash, recycling and yard waste pickup is provided for their neighborhoods at www.cityofbeaufort.org.

Beaufort's consolidated trash pickup schedule will begin Monday.

Under the new arrangement, Waste Pro, the city's contractor, will collect garbage, recycling and yard debris one day a week, instead of different days for each type of waste.

The goal is to make collection more convenient for residents and to cut down on truck traffic, city manager Scott Dadson said.

"The thing to remember is, the day your garbage is picked up is the day everything else gets picked up now," Dadson said.

For example, residents in downtown Beaufort should still put their garbage out on Mondays, and they should put any recycling and yard waste they may have on the curb on Monday, too, he said.

Dadson didn't expect major problems due to the change, as people get used to the new arrangement.

"Putting your recycling out alongside your garbage makes a lot of sense to people," he said.

Other than consolidating days, service won't change, Dadson said. Residents still must schedule bulk pickup and will continue to pay $16.20 a month.

Waste Pro's contract with the city, which began in August 2009, runs through July 31, and the city has an option to extend the deal for three additional one-year terms.

For proper pickup, residents should put garbage, recycling and yard waste side by side, and should not put anything in front of their roll carts.
