Investigate all nonprofit charities and chambers

info@islandpacket.comJanuary 3, 2014

I completely agree with a recent letter writer about checking out charities before donating. There is lots of information on the Internet about the scams we are all being subjected to by charities and chambers of commerce that are self-serving with excessive salaries and overhead. In many cases, very little of the money we donate or pay for membership is being used for stated purposes. Everyone can order an IRS Form 990 to see some information, but not all of it. The IRS is not enforcing or doing its job correctly.

The only way to see all is ask for all of it under a freedom of information request or a complete third party audit. My FOIA lawsuit against the Hilton Head Bluffton Chamber, if won, will force all these organizations to be transparent.
