A Beaufort man vandalism charges after a fight at a New Year's party injured the host, according to the Beaufort Police Department.

Bryan Colby Fillinger, 22, was charged Wednesday after he slashed tires on four cars with a knife and fought with a man who had kicked Fillinger out of the party at a home on Azalea Drive, Cpl. Hope Able said.

The host chased Fillinger and tackled him. Both Fillinger and the man fell on the knife Fillinger was holding, Able said. The host was taken to Beaufort Memorial Hospital; Able did not have details on his injuries. Fillinger's injuries did not require hospital treatment, Able said.

Fillinger is charged with four counts of malicious injury to property, Fillinger was charged on outstanding warrants of fleeing to evade arrest and receiving stolen goods. Those charges arose from a Dec. 15 incident, when police found him sleeping in a bathroom at the Basil Green Recreation Complex on Rodgers Street. Fillinger gave the officer his information but ran, leaving a backpack. Inside the backpack, police found an item stolen from a vehicle, Able said.

Fillinger was being held Thursday in the Beaufort County Detention Center pending a bond hearing, according to the jail log.
