Hardeeville residents may want to double-check their recent lottery tickets because a $300,000 prize has gone unclaimed for a week, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.

The Palmetto Cash 5 ticket was sold at the Gulf Oil gas station at 16877 Whyte Hardee Blvd., a news release said. While the top prize was just $100,000, the buyer opted to "power up" for an additional $1, bringing the winnings to $300,000.

The ticket-holder -- whose winning numbers are 3, 6, 8, 11 and 19 -- has 180 days left to claim the prize from when the numbers were drawn Dec. 27.

The odds of winning $300,000 playing the Palmetto Cash 5 are less than 1 in 1.6 million, the release said. Still, the region has seen its share of winners. Eight other tickets bought in Beaufort or Jasper counties over the last two years delivered prizes of at least $50,000 each, according to Holli Armstrong, a lottery representative.

A Hardeeville man snagged one of those prizes, winning $200,000 from a Lucky Loot ticket he purchased at Handy Dans 3 in Ridgeland, according to a news release. The man, who was not identified, received some help from a local financial planner in stretching the windfall for a house and car.

Six of the tickets were purchased in Bluffton, including one that won $200,000 in Cash Bash on Nov. 25.

When the most recent winner claims the $300,000, the Gulf Oil gas station that sold the ticket will receive a $3,000 commission, Armstrong said.
