A Bluffton school's football field was partially torn up by tire marks last week, causing about $4,000 in damage, according to the Bluffton Police Department.

Officers arrived at Bluffton Middle School about 12:30 p.m. Thursday on a complaint that several sod panels were damaged in circular patterns, apparently by someone driving on the field, according to the incident report.

It was not immediately clear how the school will pay for repairs. Attempts Tuesday to reach Jim Foster, spokesman for the Beaufort County School District, were unsuccessful.

Police continue to investigate the incident.
