Several of the areas boys and girls basketball teams will take the court this week at the Bobcat Classic, which returns to Bluffton High School for the eighth consecutive year.
The host Bobcats will see both their boys and girls teams compete Thursday, with Brett Macys boys team facing off against Groves (Ga.) at 7:30 p.m. while Lonnie Roberts girls squad will host rival Beaufort High at 6 p.m.
The Bobcats and Eagles are joined by area foes Ridgeland-Hardeeville and Whale Branch Early College High School. Both of the Jaguars teams are competing, with the boys opening against New Hempstead (Ga.) at 4:30 p.m. and the girls tipping off against Wade Hampton at 3 p.m.
The Warriors girls team will take on Glynn Academy (Ga.) at 3 p.m.
Whale Branchs opening round game is one of four which will be played at McCracken Middle School. All games will shift to Bluffton High on Saturday and Sunday, with the girls and boys championship games slated for 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Sunday, respectively.
Both Bobcats teams are off to strong starts this year, as the Bluffton boys recently knocked off Class 1-A state runner-up Whale Branch Early College High School while the girls edged Ridgeland-Hardeville, 38-30, last Saturday.
The Beaufort High girls have already surpassed last seasons win total while the Ridgeland-Hardeeville boys knocked off Bluffton last weekend. The Whale Branch girls are also off to another strong start as they look to improve on last years deep playoff run.
Fans can purchase a three-day pass for $20 or a two-day pass for $15. Admission for one day is $8.
