A Hilton Head Island man was injured Saturday when his bike collided with a car, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office incident report.

The man was biking through a parking lot on Greenwood Drive shortly before 6 p.m. when he collided with a black sedan, fell to the ground and hurt his hand, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office. The driver told officers the man was using one hand to steer his bike and the other to text on his cellphone when he rode into her car, causing minor scratches to her front bumper, the report said.

When she got out of her car, the man reportedly said he was fine and did not need medical assistance, the woman told deputies.

The man, however, told deputies the vehicle drove through a stop sign before striking him, the report said. She then got out of the car, asked if he was OK and drove away toward Sea Pines, the biker said.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. The cyclist was transported to Hilton Head Hospital for a possible fractured finger, the report said.
