I see absolutely nothing admirable about U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford sleeping on a futon in his congressional office.
The taxpayers provide that space for the people's business, not sleeping quarters. And taxpayers provide a decent salary for congressmen.
Moreover, this congressman is a wealthy man and could well afford to rent an apartment in Washington. He can be frugal if he wants by renting a small and inexpensive apartment. He is not frugal by sleeping in an office that is on loan from the people of South Carolina and other Americans.
Tacky and cheap are words that come to mind when thinking about Mark Sanford. Let him be frugal on his own dime, not mine.
