Man assaulted outside Hilton Head Island store

A Savannah man who spotted the vehicle that had previously hit his own was assaulted when he tried to call 911, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff's Office report.

The 26-year-old man was walking into Walmart on Hilton Head Island shortly before 2 p.m. Wednesday when he noticed the black Dodge Caliber he believed struck his car and fled Oct. 31, the report said. He was walking toward the vehicle and calling 911 when a black female reportedly got out and punched him in the back of the head.

She bent her license plate in an attempt to conceal it and then drove away, according to the report. The man, however, was able to write the number down and provide it to deputies, who are investigating the incident.
