Five Charleston-area nonprofit organizations received $10,000 each from the Heritage Classic Foundation from proceeds of the 2013 RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing.

The donations, announced Thursday, were made thanks in part to Boeing's sponsorship of the PGA Tour golf tournament played on Hilton Head Island, according to the foundation. Boeing has a production plant in North Charleston.

Donations were made to Communities in Schools, the Lowcountry Food Bank, Ronald McDonald House, Charleston Trident Urban League and Habitat for Humanity of Dorchester County.

In total, the Heritage Classic Foundation has donated more than $2.1 million to charity this year, bringing its grand total of charitable giving to more than $25 million since 1987, according to a foundation news release.
