Whale Branch Elementary School in Seabrook was evacuated Tuesday afternoon in response to a bathroom fire, according to Assistant Fire Chief Randy Wells of the Burton Fire District.

Wells said the small fire was put out quickly, but that airing smoke from the school took longer.

Students were evacuated from the school around 1:30 p.m. and returned the building about an hour later, according to a teacher.

The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fire, Wells said.
