Budget offers nothing for true conservatives

info@islandpacket.comDecember 15, 2013

Once again the Republican leadership in the House of Representatives has tried to prove it has more in common with J. Wellington Wimpy of Popeye fame than it does with the spending reduction constituency that elected it.

The Ryan-Murray budget deal is yet one more episode in kicking the can down the road. It squanders the real (though imperfect) gains made in controlling federal spending via the budget sequester. The Ryan-Murray deal will not result in actual spending cuts in the future any more than Wimpy will pay on Tuesday for a hamburger today nor will it motivate conservatives to come to the polls in 2014 anymore than the Mitt Romney candidacy did in 2012. This lack of gumption by GOP House leadership reminds conservatives again that "primarying" the Republicans In Name Only is the last game left in town.
