sports@islandpacket.comDecember 13, 2013

The 14th annual RET Thomas Memorial Holiday tournament tips off Friday at Hilton Head Prepartory School and Hilton Head Christian Academy.

Boys and girls teams from Prep, Hilton Head Christian, Bible Baptist and the home-schooled Coastal Hurricanes will take part in this year's event. First-round matchups will take place Friday. The consolation and championship rounds are scheduled for Saturday afternoon at Prep.

Admission is $7 for adults and $3 for students.

The tournament also will provide several contests to give fans a chance to donate. The event's proceeds benefit the RET Thomas Pediatric Cancer Foundation, which generates funds to assist families of children afflicted with cancer.

The tournament is played in honor of Ret Thomas, a former student at Hilton Head Prep who died in April 2000 after a year-long battle with Ewing's Sarcoma.
