Deep Well

Gretchen is 73 and over the years has helped out in The Deep Well Project's home-furnishings room by folding sheets, blankets and towels and keeping the place orderly.

A few years ago, her toes were amputated, making movement more difficult. Her Social Security income is $750 a month and sometimes is not enough to cover all her basic needs.

Last winter, Deep Well helped her with an electric bill, and in the fall, it paid her water bill.

Deep Well provides a broad range of social services for poor working families, the disabled, the sick and the elderly.

The Island Packet is pleased to provide this opportunity to share information, experiences and observations about what's in the news. Some of the comments may be reprinted elsewhere in the site or in the newspaper. We encourage lively, open debate on the issues of the day, and ask that you refrain from profanity, hate speech, personal comments and remarks that are off point. Thank you for taking the time to offer your thoughts.
