A 19-year-old Hilton Head Island man was arrested Monday following a report that someone fired a gun at a moving car.

A witness told the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office that he was on Christopher Drive shortly before 12:40 p.m. when he noticed a man leaning into the window of a gold car. Suddenly he heard several popping noises and saw the suspect firing a silver pistol at the car as it drove away, according to a report.

Deputies searched the area and recovered 11 spent shell casings, but not the weapon, the report said. Officers arrested a man who was watching the investigation and matched a description of the suspect. He was charged him with firing a weapon within town limits.

The man was released from the Beaufort County Detention Center on a $1,092.50 bond.
