BLUFFTON TEAM QUALIFIES FOR USTA NATIONALS

The USTA League 55 & Over/65 & Over Southern Sectional Championships were held this weekend in Columbus, Ga., and a men's doubles team from Bluffton was among the 14 tennis teams to bring home a title from the rain-soaked tournament.

The men's 55-and-over team based out of Bluffton and captained by John Brittis earned the championship in the 9.0 combined division, topping a squad from Myrtle Beach in the final.

The Bluffton team advances to the USTA League 55 & Over National Championships in Surprise, Ariz., over two weekends next April.

Rain delayed play on Friday and Saturday, and washed out Sunday competition. The 9.0 men's division was one of only three divisions during the weekend that was able to complete play. The rest of the champions were decided by drawing.
