Newberry College senior Jordan McDonnell, a 2008 Bluffton High School graduate and the Bobcats' 2007 MVP, played Sunday in the fourth annual National Bowl Game in Miami at Florida International University's Alfonso Field.

McDonnell suited up for the Red squad in its 40-26 win over the Blue in the college all-star game which features 20-minute quarters to provide more playing time.

The former Bobcat caught two passes for 35 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown pass. On defense, McDonnell made two tackles, and he recovered a fumble on special teams

McDonnell, a hybrid back who originally signed with Charleston Southern before transferring, was the Wolves' leading receiver out of the backfield this season with 23 catches for 235 yards. He also had a rushing touchdown.

Newberry finished this season 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the South Atlantic Conference while earning its second NCAA Division II playoff berth. The Wolves fell at Carson-Newman, 37-27, in the first round.
