Seaman Apprentice Trevon T. Rawls, a 2013 graduate of Hilton Head Island High School, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

During the eight weeks of training, Rawls learned about naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. Physical fitness also was emphasized.

Boot camp concluded with "Battle Stations," an exercise that gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet. Battle emphasizes sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance.

Rawls is the son of Nancy Rawls of Bluffton, Fla.
