Wexford mixed doubles tennis team claims national title

A mixed doubles tennis team from Hilton Head Island representing the USTA Southern Section, captured the national title Nov. 25 at the USTA League 10.0 Adult Mixed 18 and Over Doubles National Championships held at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.

The Hilton Head team defeated a team from Gold River, Calif., 2-1 in the championship match. Earlier in the day, the USTA Southwest team defeated a team from Phoenix, Ariz., 2-1 in the semifinals.

The Hilton Head team is captained by Tammy Zawacki and features Marisa Chapin, Katrina Barnes, Victor Ventura, Brian Burke, and George Clonts and plays at the Wexford Racquet Club.

The USTA League Mixed Doubles is for men and women 18 years of age and older. Teams are formed by combining the two player's individual National Tennis Rating Program (NTRP) ratings. The team's total rating must equal: 2.5, 6.0, 7.0, 8.0, 9.0 and 10.0. Play format consists of three doubles matches.
