Gun jams during argument in Beaufort

A Beaufort man charged with attempted murder Saturday tried to shoot a man, but his handgun jammed, a Beaufort Police Department spokeswoman said.

Matthew Nicholas Guldner, 21, was still arguing with the man in a parking lot on Bay Street at 2:12 a.m. when police arrived, Cpl. Hope Able said.

The man told police Guldner pointed a handgun at him but it did not go off when he pulled the trigger, Able said. Officers found the gun in bushes near the scene.

Guldner also was charged with possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He was in the Beaufort County Detention Center on Tuesday, with bond set at $200,000, according to the jail log.
