A Barnwell man died Monday in the Combahee River near Beaufort County, the Hampton County coroner confirmed.

Terry Thomas Lott, 68, had gone fishing in his boat, Coroner Ernie J. Washington Sr. said Tuesday.

S.C. Department of Natural Resources law enforcement officers were alerted to Lott's disappearance about 4:45 p.m. Monday, Lt. Michael Paul Thomas said. A DNR boat recovered Lott's body about an hour later.

An autopsy will determine the cause of death, Washington said.

Lott was fishing alone, and there were no witnesses to his disappearance, Thomas said.
