A storm lumbering toward the East Coast has delayed work to unclog waterways in Sea Pines on Hilton Head Island.

Work was to begin Wednesday on dredging the Harbour Town Yacht Basin, but it has been postponed because of high winds and seas, said Mark King, president of the Club Group, managing agent for the Harbour Town Boat Slip Owners Association.

King said Tuesday the contractor has placed only about 2,000 of 18,000 feet of pipe. He expects workers to resume laying pipe Thursday and Friday, depending on the weather, with dredging beginning Saturday or Sunday.
