Richard Todd Ferguson

A 44-year-old Bluffton man has been charged with attempted murder in a fight earlier this month in the Bluffton Promenade.

Richard Todd Ferguson is accused of cutting a man in the arm with a knife and telling him, "I will kill you," according to a Bluffton Police Department news release. The fight occurred outside a restaurant Nov. 2, the release said.

The victim defended himself by punching Ferguson, causing him to hit his head and pass out, Capt. Angela McCall-Tanner said. Ferguson was taken to the hospital, she added.

After consulting with his attorney, Ferguson turned himself in to the police Tuesday, McCall-Tanner said, and he will be held at the Beaufort County Detention Center until a bond hearing.
