Three men robbed a group of women playing cards Sunday in a Burton home, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

One of the three robbers was armed with a handgun when they entered a home on Wellena Court at about 5 p.m., a news release said.

The homeowner, a 59-year-old man, was in the kitchen cooking. The robbers told him to stay there while they went into the dining room and took a purse and the money from the card game, the release said.

The men were last seen running across Joe Frazier Road into the woods. A K-9 team recovered some of the stolen money, but the robbers were not found, the release said.

No one was hurt in the robbery, the release said.

The robbers were described as black and in their late 20s, wearing scarves over their faces. One was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, and the other two were wearing black hooded sweatshirts.
