Don't want to take the kids shopping the day after Thanksgiving?

Take them fishing, instead.

The 16th annual Fripp Island Kids' Fishing Tournament is scheduled for Friday after Thanksgiving at the Fripp Island Marina.

"All are invited, there are no fees and last year we netted 186 kids at the tournament, and they had a great time and caught lots of fish," said Captain Ralph Goodison, a tournament organizer.

All kids, ages 4 to 14 accompanied by an adult, are invited to fish from a boat, marina dock (this day only) or your private fishing hole. Kids need to bring their own rod, reel, tackle and a life jacket.

There will be free hamburgers, hot-dogs and ice cream for the kids. There are first-, second- and third-place prizes for the largest trout, redfish, flounder, black drum and other categories. Prizes are trophies and rods and reels.

Registration and fishing starts at 8 a.m. and closes at 3 p.m.. Fishing is followed by a tournament awards ceremony. The event is once again sponsored by the Fripp Island Yacht Club and Fripp Island Marina.
