A Beaufort County EMS crew chief has been named the Asa Godowns Professional of the Year.

Gary W. Taylor was nominated by his peers for the award, presented Saturday by the Harmony Masonic Lodge 22 in Beaufort in memory of former EMS Deputy Director Asa Godowns, who died in 2001.

Taylor has been a member of Beaufort County EMS for 17 years, according to a news release.

"He is one of the nicest and (most) caring men I know and has truly earned the respect of everyone who works here," EMS director Donna Ownby said.
