Hilton Head High boys, Beaufort girls receive national soccer honors for GPA

For the second consecutive year, two Beaufort County high school soccer programs have earned the prestigious NSCAA National Team Academic Award, it was announced Thursday.

The Hilton Head Island boys team topped off its first Class 3-A state championship with the award, posting a 3.77 GPA.

The Beaufort High girls, coached by Terry Rawlings, posted a 3.43.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America gives the awards annually to teams with a 3.25 GPA or higher.

A total of 369 soccer teams (139 boys, 230 girls) from across the United States earned the award during the 2012-13 academic year.
