A former Jasper County School District employee is accused of embezzling more than $10,000 from the school district, the Ridgeland Police Department said.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for 40-year-old Rincon, Ga., resident Gwenetta Harris, a former technology administrative assistant, the department said in a news release. Harris allegedly embezzled the money from the school district and used it to purchase 72 items for her personal use, police said.

Investigators believe Harris sent seven purchase orders to Apple for iPads, iPods and accessories between July 18 and Oct. 21, the release said. She was fired by the school district Oct. 23.

It was not clear what she did with that number of computers.

School district officials met Nov. 18 with Ridgeland police to report Harris' alleged theft, the release said.
