A third man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a series of recent burglaries on Lady's Island.

Michael Anthony Steiniger, 28, of Beaufort, was arrested by the Beaufort Police Department and charged with possession of a controlled substance, according to Sgt. Robin McIntosh of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, which assisted with the investigation.

A search at the time of his arrest yielded property stolen from a home on Lady's Island, McIntosh said. Brent Elliott Doddridge of St. Helena and Logan James Phillips of Hilton Head Island, both 18, were charged with burglary Monday in connection with the theft from that home and two others.

They also were charged in a failed break-in on St. Helena Island.

In the search Tuesday, investigators also recovered property reported stolen in three Beaufort burglaries. Officers believe the 28-year-old man was planning to sell the stolen goods, McIntosh said.

Investigators are valuing the property, which will determine whether he is charged with a misdemeanor or felony, McIntosh said. He was released from the Beaufort County Detention Center on the drug possession charge on a $5,000 bond.
