Hilton Head Christian tennis star Drake signs with Clemson

Hilton Head Christian Academy's Hampton Drake has signed a National Letter of Intent to play men's tennis for head coach Chuck McCuen at Clemson beginning in the 2014-15 season.

Drake is one of five Smith Stearns Tennis Academy students to sign letters of intent during the NCAA's early signing period, which runs through this week.

Harrison O'Keefe has signed with the University of South Carolina, while Katelyn Jackson signed with Texas Tech.

The signings of Mariana Gould (Georgia) and Kelly Mengel (Penn State) were announced last week along with those of their Hilton Head Prep classmates.

Ranked as high as No. 22 nationally by the Tennis Recruiting Network, Drake is rated a five-star recruit and currently ranked No. 34 in the country. Throughout his junior career Drake has been one of the top players in the state and the South.

Jackson, a left-hander, is the No. 1 player in Arkansas and the No. 49 player in the nation, according to TennisRecruiting.com.

Rated a five-star recruit by Tennis Recruiting Network, O'Keefe is currently ranked No. 22 in the nation and third in the Middle Atlantic Region. He has been ranked as high as No. 17 in the nation.

Hilton Head Island's head girls tennis coach Jennifer Weitekamper is one of two coaches for the South Team for the North/South Girls Tennis Matches to be held Saturday at the Kroc Center in Greenville.

No area players were selected for the event.


Bluffton's Mackenzie Cooler and Hilton Head Island's Mallory Lewis will play in the North/South All-Star Volleyball Matches to be held Thursday through Saturday at Erskine College in Due West.
