An 18-year-old man was assaulted Saturday at Cordillo Court Apartments on Hilton Head Island and a 26-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint there the night before, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived at the apartments at about 1 p.m. Saturday to find the 18-year-old bleeding from the face and head, according to a news release.

The victim refused to say how he was injured, but witnesses told deputies he was assaulted by two men he had confronted about an armed robbery that took place the night before. The men punched him repeatedly in the head and face and left in a gold Volvo driven by a woman, the release said.

The assault victim refused medical treatment.

While investigating the assault, deputies spoke with a 26-year-old man who said he had been robbed at gunpoint by a man at about 7:30 p.m. Friday while walking upstairs to his apartment. The robber took cash and fled.

Sgt. Robin McIntosh said the two incidents might involve common suspects, but that has not been confirmed.

Those with information can call Cpl. D. Seifert at 843-255-3414 or Crime Stoppers at 888-274-6372.
