A clerk prevented a robbery at an Okatie convenience store late Wednesday by pulling a gun on a man armed with a knife.

Shortly after 10 p.m., the robber entered the Callawassie General Store on Callawassie Drive and approached the 34-year-old clerk, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office. The suspect demanded money, but the clerk told him she had already put all the cash in a safe.

While the man searched through the bank bag the clerk had been holding, the clerk grabbed her handgun, the release said. The robber ran and the clerk locked the store, then called law enforcement.

No customers were present during the incident.

The suspect is described as white, 24 to 28 years old, 5-feet-8, 180 pounds, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a baseball hat and blue jeans.
