3 wrecks tie up morning traffic

info@islandpacket.comNovember 14, 2013

Three wrecks on U.S. 278 from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday slowed eastbound traffic between Bluffton and Hilton Head Island to a crawl.

A crash just after 8 a.m. involving three cars on Wilborn Road on Hilton Head was the first to slow traffic, according to Beaufort County traffic-management officials.

A second wreck took place soon after involving two cars near Squire Pope Road.

Both of those wrecks had been cleared when a third took place near the intersection of Buck Island Road and U.S. 278 in Bluffton, blocking left and center lanes of eastbound U.S. 278. Traffic was cleared by about 9:20 a.m.

Motorists stuck in traffic on U.S. 278 East between Bluffton and Hilton Head reported being stopped as long as 30 minutes.
