A construction worker struck by a car on US 278 has died as a result of his injuries.

Bobby Harris, 56, was pronounced dead Monday at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, according to Beaufort County Coroner Ed Allen. Harris suffered severe head trauma October 23 when Wendy Whalen, 56, drove into a construction barrel near Hampton Parkway Road, lost control of her vehicle and swerving into a closed construction lane, hitting Harris, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol, which handled the investigation.

Whalen, who was also transported to the hospital, was in good condition that night. Efforts Wednesday to reach the Highway Patrol were unsuccessful.
