Homeless man charged after spitting on jail officer

A 48-year-old homeless man being booked in the Beaufort County Detention Center was charged with throwing of bodily fluids after he spit on a corrections officer, according the Beaufort Police Department.

The man was arrested Friday night and charged with shoplifting $20 worth of items from Walmart on Robert Smalls Parkway, the report said. He also was charged with public drunkenness, according to the jail log.

He remains in the detention center, with bail set at $7,392.50.
