Police searched a Beaufort church Monday for a man who robbed a loan office with two accomplices, according to a news release from the Beaufort Police Department.

Beaufort County Sheriff's Office K-9 units and members of the Beaufort and Port Royal police departments searched the Community Bible Church on Parris Island Gateway for one of the men suspected of robbing the Carolina Title Loans office on Ribaut Road, the release said.

The three men carried handguns when they entered the loan office at 11:30 a.m., according to the release. An off-duty police officer spotted a silver Dodge Magnum they drove away in farther down Ribaut Road in Port Royal and called in its location.

Beaufort and Port Royal police stopped the car on the Parris Island Gateway, the release said.

Two of the men were arrested, but a third ran toward the church. The church buildings were searched as a precaution and a police perimeter was set up around the church, but the man was not found, the release said. Officers and deputies from all three agencies were still outside the church at 2 p.m. Monday.

The man was described as black and in his early 20s, wearing a black baseball cap, black shirt and black jeans. He is thought to be armed with a handgun, the release said.
