Government is serving itself, not the people

Hurray for the author of the Nov. 4 letter concerning Congress term limits. I totally agree with the author that the government is in need of a major shake up. His statement that Americans should vote members of Congress out and replace them with people who will agree to limit terms is correct -- as is his suggestion that these replacement members of Congress not pass any laws that don't apply to themselves.

In my opinion, the government has moved very far from what it was meant to be by our Founding Fathers. Americans fought a war to preserve this union only to allow our government to lose sight of its purpose. Our government has forgotten what was said at Gettysburg: "Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."

Someone explain to me how our current government is living up to those words? I just don't see it. We now have a government that grants itself better benefits than any of us can get. The government is forcing a health care system on Americans against most of our wills. It will force most of us to lose our current insurance and purchase new insurance with even higher costs to us. This just doesn't sound like a government that is for the people. That government has died and blown away.
